ABOUT ME
I am the technology teacher at Ridge Road Elementary School. I teach 3-5 graders and love what I do. 2012-13 will be the sixth year for technology at our school. Before teaching this class, I taught 4th grade social studies. I have an undergraduate degree from GC&SU in social sciences and Masters Degree from GC&SU in Media Services, and a Specialist Degree from Valdosta State in Instructional Technology. I have three children, Will 12, Drew 8, and Katie 4. I plan to get my Doctoral Degree within the next 5 years. I love working with children, and plan to teach until retirement.
Welcome to technology class. We will be studying lots of different programs through your three year course.
In 3rd grade, we spend half the year learning keyboarding and mouse skills. We work with Paint as well as Microsoft Word. We do use the Internet some, but it is on a very limited basis. This is the year we also take apart a computer and learn what the pieces and parts do, and how they work together.
In 4th grade, we review our keyboarding skills, and begin using Microsoft Word to publish our writing. We learn Microsoft PowerPoint, as well as some basic Internet safety lessons.
In 5th grade, We concentrate on Internet safety and research during the first half of the school year. After Christmas, we being digital photography as well as Photostory and Movie Maker.
If you join technology club, we will expand your knowledge of technology, and concentrate on programs that we do not use in class. This is a much more advanced program that what is taught during the regular school day. Here we learn to modify music, create animations, and many othe fun and useful Internet programs.
